Ada Pilar Cruz, Untitled, kelp imbedded in handmade paper, 2025

Buster Levi Gallery is pleased to present Kelp Cartography, prints and sculptures by

Ada Pilar Cruz at 121 Main Street in Cold Spring, New York. The exhibition will run from

December 5 to January 4. There will be an opening reception for the artist on Saturday

December 6 from 3-7 pm.

Ada Pilar Cruz’s new works at Buster Levi Gallery continues a series of prints made

from Kelp found in the arctic regions, specifically Iceland and Greenland where she has

been working as an artist in residence. In addition, her porcelain figures wear wrappings

with imprinted kelp leaves. Cruz says: “I work with clay because it is raw and malleable,

of the earth, and working the material is physical, engaging and intimate.  It is the best

material for me to convey the sense of urgency I feel from the stories I have had access

to and the experiences I know I have a responsibility to convey in my art.  I can leave an

imprint in the material---clay has a memory.”

Ada Pilar Cruz has a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art.

Her work has been exhibited in New York, across the US, and internationally. She has

received awards and residencies from the Studio Museum in Harlem, Jerome

Foundation Grant and Residency, New York Foundation for the Arts Grant, Lower East

Side Printshop, Museum of Art and Design, RIA/CE, India, and the Nes Artist residency

in Iceland. Cruz currently resides in New York.

Buster Levi Gallery is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12-5 pm.
