Buster Levi Gallery is pleased to present New Works by Grey Zeien at 121 Main Street in Cold Spring, New York. The exhibition will run from April 5 to April 28, 2024.

All of the work in this exhibition was created during and after 2020. The pandemic, which Zeien feels altered the lives of everyone and including for him, affected his art. He believes, perhaps as a result of having more time, the work; became more structured and detailed.

Indeed they are detailed and busy. Every inch of the painting is full of active forms and shapes both geometric and organic. Color and value contrast punctuate the imagery causing it to move and turn throughout. The works contain a wide range of colors, tonality and value. Additionally, they contrast dense, flat colors with others that are transparent. For example, Moving On, is structured within a ‘loose’ grid where color and value stay within irregular borders; almost. Linear shapes reach out into other areas sometimes being transformed into the colors or value of that space and other times retaining their color. Likewise, what would appear at first to be negative space/shapes also assert themselves traveling into adjacent areas or even further. Similar colors are used through the work, maybe even the same colors, however their hue and value shifts depending on the color they are next to or surrounded by.

This work is joyous in its activity. They bustle with life and radiate energy.

The gallery will be open on weekends through from noon to five pm.
